Audubon Society

Nature Discovery Area

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

LandCurrent designed a nature discovery area with multiple nature play opportunities for the headquarters of Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania. The area spans near an acre, and is set within beautiful Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve. Play areas include a sandpit with an integrated water trough system, two vegetated tunnels, a muddy play creek, a half-finished tree house, a climbing trunk and serpentine walls. These elements are set in a woodland area and are designed to inspire creative nature play that kids can incorporate in their own back yard. The sandpit is surrounded by sensory plantings and the serpentine walls are set into a wildflower meadow. LandCurrent worked closely with the client and Let Kids Play!. This collaboration resulted in inclusive play opportunities in the upper part of the site.
