Ottawa Kindergarten: Natural Play & Learning

Kindergarten outdoor learning and play landscape

 

LandCurrent designed this kindergarten schoolyard simultaneously with the schoolyard design for the school-age kids. Similar to the elementary yard, the kinder yard includes a sliding hill with an embankment slide that is also set up for toboggan during the long snowy winter months in Ottawa. Tall elements are designed to stick out above the snow and thus provide play affordances during the winter, The Kinder yard has many opportunities for imaginary play including sand and water play.  Over eighty parents and children planted both yards in September 2013.
