At LandCurrent, we specialize in landscape architecture and design with a focus on wildfire protection strategies for homes and buildings. With climate change accelerating, wildfires are increasingly devastating entire communities. This growing threat inspired us to envision an automated wildfire defense system that shields homes and landscapes by deploying targeted water dousing as wildfires approach.

Our vision combines proven technologies—sprinklers, IoT sensors, mobile apps, and geospatial modeling—into a seamless, integrated defense system. While each component already exists, our innovation lies in strategically bringing them together. Two seasoned software entrepreneurs have validated the technical feasibility of our concept. For optimal results, our system should be combined with other fire protection measures, such as defensible space planning.

Key Features

  • Fully Automated Operation – Activates independently, without manual input.

  • Redundant Power Sources – City power, batteries, generators

  • Redundant Water Sources – Utilizes city water, pools, cisterns, ponds, lakes, and streams.

  • Redundant Control Options – Offers manual, remote, and autonomous operation

Many overlooked water sources can serve as emergency reserves. For instance, aerial photographs from the 2025 Palisades, California wildfire revealed homes reduced to ashes while their swimming pools remained full of water. Similarly, the nearby Pacific Ocean—Earth’s largest water reservoir—could have been utilized for fire suppression with the necessary infrastructure investment by local governments.

OUR VISION

System Functionality

The Wildfire Protection System functions as a highly efficient irrigation network, with independently controlled zones. Sprinklers installed on structures and throughout the landscape provide targeted protection, soaking vegetation and buildings to combat advancing flames.

Existing fire detection technologies can be integrated into the system to provide real-time alerts. Upon detecting a fire, the system will automatically notify local authorities, city officials, and residents, offering predictive insights on fire movement and timing. The system can be designed to function autonomously, meaning that it doesn’t need to rely on the internet or the electric grid.

Data-Driven Fire Response

The system intelligently activates sprinklers based on key parameters, including:

  • Vegetation and surface moisture levels

  • Fire location, direction, and progression

  • Available water reserves and flow rate

  • Temperature and wind conditions

Long-Term Impact

As the adoption of the Wildfire Protection System grows, data collected will refine wildfire behavior predictions, improving accuracy and precision. This not only enhances protection for individual property owners but also contributes to broader advancements in fire mitigation research.

Consulting

At LandCurrent, we design fire-wise landscapes and wildfire protection systems tailored to your needs. To realize our vision of fully integrated systems, we collaborate with local fire departments, regulatory agencies, architects, and engineers.

  • New Projects: Our system can be seamlessly integrated into new landscape or home designs.

  • Existing Homes and Landscapes: We offer phased plans to enhance fire protection gradually, accommodating your budget over time.

We provide a free one-hour consultation to discuss how we can help safeguard your property. Builders, developers, architects, and local governments are also encouraged to partner with us to implement neighborhood-scale protection systems.

Finally, we actively evaluate new products and technologies that complement wildfire protection efforts. Vendors are welcome to reach out with innovative solutions.

By working together, we can help prevent the devastating loss of life and property caused by wildfires.
