Planning your landscape while staying at home.
"To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow"
Audrey Hepburn
Spending all my time working from home has led to lots of home improvement daydreaming. With the family at home all day, and the beautiful weather, projects I put off in the past are now at the top of the list. I know this is true for other people as well. My neighbor’s front yard is under construction, (with proper social distancing) she is adding more open space for kids to play. A friend is redesigning his deck after spending a month focused on the deck’s design flaws. He’s planning on having his design ready to go as soon as things open up.
Maybe, after weeks of watching the wildlife in your backyard, you want to plant for pollinators, grow more native plants or attract songbirds. Trips to the grocery store are stressful and you are dreaming of an amazing vegetable garden. Perhaps, your yard is stressful! You just see weeds and work and want something low maintenance, lovely and relaxing. If summer camps are canceled this year, I know I’ll be wishing I had a swimming pool and a trampoline. A well-designed garden is an extension of your home and right now a comfortable, functional sustainable home may be more important than ever.
Landcurrent is working remotely to provide the same high quality, innovative design we always have. Because of COVID-19, we are offering a 20% discount for the year 2020 on residential landscape designs. If you have a project you would like to start, give us a call. We are happy to talk about your project and walk you through the remote design process.
How it works
Assessing your needs
With your address we can look at aerial photos and plan a remote visit with you to discuss your hopes and dreams for your landscape. You can send us photos and videos and walk us through your ideas.
Creating a Base map
Depending on your landscape, we will need to measure or have a surveyor measure your yard to create an accurate base plan. We will follow all social distancing protocols and you do not need to be present. We’ll discuss these measures with you beforehand to make sure you feel comfortable, responsible and safe.
Creating your plan
All plans start with a schematic design. This concept level drawing shows all the elements of your landscape and the spatial configuration. We’ll make drawings or sketches to communicate the design to you in weekly meetings. We can share them via zoom or go-to-meetings. You can mark up the drawings, give us feedback and ask questions. You just need a good internet connection and a free video-conferencing platform of your choice.
Design Development and Construction Documents
Once we have developed your ideal design, we move on to finalizing all the details, materials and plant choices. Like an architect, we create construction documents to communicate the design to a contractor. This process is technical, and we will keep you updated. Once finished, this construction set can be sent out to contractors for biding.
Plan Implementation and Construction
Depending on the size and scope of your project, creating the construction and bid drawings will generally take two to four months. When these drawings are finished, we can help you reach out to contractors, choose three or four bids, interview the contractors, and make the right choice for your project. If we are still under social distancing guidelines, we will create a work-plan that follows these guidelines and makes you comfortable.
